[00:00:00] Speaker A: It is a Thursday night in Rosedale, California, and we focus in on one particular house. Daisy, it is a rare night that you have the house to yourself. What are you getting up to? The year is 1999, so, well, classic. [00:00:21] Speaker B: You have to have a snack. So I am getting the Jiffy Pop out of the cupboard. I'm starting up the oven, and I'm gonna start to cook that. I'm gonna watch some trashy TV that my parents don't let me watch when they're in the house and my little brother's in the house. And I am going to just yap with my friends on the phone all [00:00:40] Speaker A: evening, as is your right. And as you start to do that, get the popcorn going, pick out what exactly trashy TV you are going to watch. You have a moment when you're walking and you are just walking from room to room, getting ready. It's that moment when you step, and then suddenly, like, you step, you hear the floorboards creak, and then you're paused for a second and you hear the floorboards creak again and you haven't moved. [00:01:24] Speaker B: Date. Do the parents drop you off early? [00:01:30] Speaker A: You don't hear anything. [00:01:32] Speaker B: Must be the old house. [00:01:35] Speaker A: It must be just for my edification, can you roll to keep your cool? [00:01:44] Speaker B: That's a nine minus one. So eight. [00:01:46] Speaker A: On seven to nine, the eye will tell you how your actions leave you vulnerable. Choose to either back down, choose to back down, or go through with it. And as you call out your brother's name and you are moving around, and you could either continue going forward just where you are, where you're going to the kitchen and not think about it, or you could turn around and see what's behind you. [00:02:22] Speaker B: I know, I know. Nate likes to play pranks on me. I mean, this kid's. And he's young, you know, early teens. So I'm gonna turn around and see what's behind me because it would be. It would be like my parents to drop him off and just not tell me. And then when he inevitably does something stupid, I'm in trouble. So. So I'm going to turn around and see if he's behind me. I'm going to, like, try to do it quick to see if I can scare him, you know? [00:02:52] Speaker A: Yeah. And as you do, you do that sort of quick turnaround to try and startle your younger brother. What you see behind you isn't your younger brother. It takes you a second. It's a little dark. You don't have all the lights on, but you see somebody in what looks to be a dark hoodie. And your eyes travel up and they're wearing a mask. And this mask sort of appears partially like somebody took the skull of some kind of animal and adorned it with flowers and spray painted it gold. [00:03:37] Speaker B: Nate, this isn't funny. This isn't funny. I'm gonna call mom right now. This isn't cool. I'm gonna like, back up to the phone, which I imagine's like on a wall with like a twisted long cable on it. And I pick up the phone to like the aisle. [00:03:59] Speaker A: Yeah, you do. You pick it up. Roll me a runaway roll with volatile. [00:04:06] Speaker B: Another nine. Minus one. So an eight. [00:04:10] Speaker A: An eight on a seven to nine. You get away, but choose one. You run into something worse, you cause a big scene or you leave something behind. [00:04:21] Speaker B: I mean, if I'm moving away from this, I'm definitely having to leave the phone. So if this. If this person's moving towards me and I'm leaving, I'm leaving the phone behind. [00:04:31] Speaker A: As you do and you drop the phone, they are rushing towards you in their hands. You see pruning shears. You're a little unsure because you're kind of moving quickly. They've got some sort of bladed thing in their hands and they are rushing towards you. [00:04:48] Speaker B: I'm screaming and running for the front door. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Let's roll to keep your cool one more time. [00:04:58] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Another. I kid you not. Eight. [00:05:04] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:05:04] Speaker A: No. And you, you have to. You realize you locked the door. [00:05:10] Speaker D: So. [00:05:10] Speaker A: And it's the. It's the deadbolt and the chain. So you have to. If you're running towards the door, you have to spend that time to unlock it. [00:05:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm doing it as fast as I can because I. Garage isn't going to be easier because I have to wait for it to go up. [00:05:27] Speaker A: Exactly. No good choices here. [00:05:29] Speaker E: So you. [00:05:29] Speaker A: You do that and you're. You're doing this. And that's when you feel the bite of whatever this is in your back as you are stabbed for the first time. Take a wound. [00:05:44] Speaker B: Does it come out of my back or does it stay in my back? [00:05:48] Speaker A: It comes out. [00:05:50] Speaker B: But you. [00:05:50] Speaker A: It does take you and you. You kind of. As this person's coming up for the second hit, you manage to throw the door open. [00:05:58] Speaker B: Yeah, I. Is there a way that I can try to swing the door and hit him in the face? [00:06:05] Speaker A: Roll to lash out physically. That's what's volatile minus one. [00:06:11] Speaker B: Ooh. That's a three total. [00:06:13] Speaker A: That is a three. So as you fail this, you Try to slam the door into their face. And unfortunately, with the way you are kind of trying to slip out the door and slam it into their face, they're able to easily just grab it on the other side and just slam it into you. You're going to take another harm. [00:06:39] Speaker B: Okay, okay, okay. I'm on the ground. Am I just in the doorway? [00:06:45] Speaker A: You are in the doorway. You're like on the front porch. This is your classic California suburbia. So there is some distance between all of these like little mini McMansions. [00:06:56] Speaker B: I am going to try to kick them in the grind to see if that slows them down at all. [00:07:04] Speaker A: Flash up. [00:07:05] Speaker B: Physically, that is a. If it's volatile, it is a 10 minus 1, so a 9. [00:07:13] Speaker A: So you will harm them, you will get that, that kick will go through, but they will also get. Because they are. They still have the thing in their hand. You're gonna kick them, they're gonna go down and you're gonna get hit again [00:07:26] Speaker B: with them being hopefully distracted by that. I'm gonna try to run, which I imagine isn't gonna be great if I've gotten stabbed twice and then hit with [00:07:35] Speaker A: a door roll to run away. [00:07:38] Speaker B: 7 minus 1 is 6. [00:07:40] Speaker A: 6, 6 is unfortunately going to be a failure. So it's that classic moment you get [00:07:45] Speaker E: up, you [00:07:49] Speaker A: grabs your leg pulling you, and you just go down into the dirt. I'm screaming, you're screaming, and unfortunately they are. They're on you before you can do anything else. And another stab and the camera shifts and pulls back and we see just your feet and this, whoever this is, this person in dark clothing, they get up and we kind of watch as they just toss these pruning shears to the side. Just a weapon of convenience no longer needed. And camera stays there on your feet as we watch as they sort of feeling a little bit untethered from the kick to the balls and everything else to kind of stagger off camera. And then it stays there for another 3, 4, 5 seconds just on the feet. And then from a different direction, we watch this pair of gray hands just grab the feet and pull the body off camera, falling to destination. [00:09:13] Speaker F: Constant condemnation. Mental infestation. [00:09:23] Speaker E: And. [00:09:55] Speaker A: With that title card, haunted in the glow. Welcome dear listeners, to Goblets and Gays Halloween special. They are four part Monster Hearts series inspired by my love of slasher films. I am Aubrey, your gm. I use she, her pronouns and I'll toss different players to introduce themselves, tell you who they are, who they're playing, and then we'll get rolling into things. And we'll start with you. [00:10:27] Speaker C: Hi everyone. My name is Abhishek Batange. I use he, him pronouns. And today I will be playing Quinn Davis, the seer who also uses he, him pronouns. [00:10:39] Speaker D: Hello, I am Andrew. I use he, him pronouns. I will be playing Riley Willows, the witch who uses she, they pronouns. [00:10:50] Speaker E: Hi there. I'm Beau, any and all pronouns. And today I'll be playing Verity low, she, her pronouns. [00:11:00] Speaker B: Hi, I'm Clyn, she, her pronouns. And today I'll be playing Daisy Henning. Also she, her pronouns. [00:11:09] Speaker F: Hi, my name is Zo, they, them pronouns. And I will be playing Melody, Grace, she, her pronouns. [00:11:18] Speaker A: And with that, back to the story. It is Friday morning and the beautiful city of Rosedale, California. And we'll start with you, Verity. What does a usual morning look like? Especially getting ready for school? [00:11:38] Speaker E: She probably gets up pretty early, maybe, I don't know, two hours change before even the bus arrives. Plant time to get everything done, you know, eat a nice breakfast, you know, do skincare routine, maybe work on a bit of extra homework if there is any, do some, you know, some weightlifting or something like that. And also just have a little bit of time to herself in her room before a busy day starts. [00:12:14] Speaker A: School would be starting around 9am so you've probably got that time, depending on how early you wake up, [00:12:23] Speaker E: probably a bit too early. She doesn't have much of a nightlife most of the time, so she probably goes to bed pretty early as well. [00:12:33] Speaker A: So to be fair, Rosedale is not overflowing with things to do at night. [00:12:42] Speaker D: True. [00:12:42] Speaker E: Also, she wouldn't be doing those things even if there was a lot of stuff to do. [00:12:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:50] Speaker A: Your parents, are they usually gone by the time you wake up? Or are they the kind of people who go in after you go to school, or especially now you're in high school and everything. You don't need them there all the time. [00:13:05] Speaker E: My mother's probably not even in town at the moment. I think the Australian Open is currently going on, so she's probably over there. Her dad probably maybe left a bit early, but not she would have said hello or something like that. Maybe seen him, you know, scarf down some breakfast or something like that, but that's about it. Most of the time the house is pretty quiet, especially in the mornings during a school day. [00:13:38] Speaker A: Have your time to get your morning routine done and even eat something before heading to school and you're, you know, sent off with the usual, you know, do you drive? Do you have a car, do you think? [00:13:54] Speaker E: I don't know. I don't. I think she'd just take the. If there is a bus, she'd probably take the bus. She might have a car, but I don't know if she would drive to school. [00:14:01] Speaker A: All right, you have a car, but you just decided not to drive to school, and that's a perfectly valid thing. [00:14:08] Speaker E: It's a bit of extra time to, like, study and just not having to focus on the drive. Just kind of letting a professional do it. [00:14:20] Speaker A: Yeah, you're told to be safe and that they will see you after school once you're sent off and you get on the bus and our camera cuts again and we'll see you. Quinn, what does your morning routine look like? [00:14:38] Speaker C: Quinn's morning routine would honestly not be really be anything special. Generally just wake up, brush teeth, shower, wash hair, and just get ready, get ready to get dressed for school. Usually just slipping on some sort of, like, faded band tee, distressed jeans, some beaten up, some beaten up high top shoes, and also wouldn't be complete without the application of some. Some little bit of guy liner. [00:15:08] Speaker A: Of course it is important and especially, you know, grunge isn't as popular as it used to be, but, like, we're kind of in that weird period between grunge and the rise of the emo movement. [00:15:19] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, definitely. He's more of the grunge. More of a grunge aesthetic altogether then. Yeah. So you probably get ready, get dressed, get his backpack, put on some guyliner, maybe paint his nails black if he has some time. If he woke up early enough, which is 50, 50, but he definitely would ride the bus to school. He definitely. His parents would have definitely both taken their cars to work for sure. [00:15:46] Speaker A: You ride the bus, get on the bus, you see Verity on the bus, and we will cut to Melody. Melody, what does your normal morning routine look like? You do wake up with a text message? [00:16:01] Speaker F: Well, the text message is secondary because the first thing that Melody wakes up after her three to four hours of sleep is grab a protein bar, wash her face, and honestly sit on the toilet and then respond to text messages there. Because that's the only time that other people can have our attention like this. [00:16:25] Speaker A: You. You have a text message from your most recent conquest. You know, just confirming that you're good for tonight or whatever. You've been kind of stringing them along. [00:16:39] Speaker E: Yay. [00:16:40] Speaker F: Whatever the fuck this runs the message. Ha ha. Whatever the fuck this means. And then Locke said, thanks, boo, you gonna come pick me up today. [00:16:51] Speaker A: And they will answer in the affirmative and tell you they'll be there in 30. [00:16:57] Speaker F: Oh, thank God, because I did not know I was gonna go to school today. Big stretch, wash his face, puts on makeup, grabs just the biggest tea that she can find, some jean shorts. And kind of just looks in the mirror and make sure it looks cute to stun the people, and then just exits the room. And it's like, mom, I'm leaving. [00:17:26] Speaker A: And you get told to have a good day at School. And 30 minutes later, almost on the dot, there is a sort of this, like. It's like a Honda Civic. It's like a nice ish car, but it's not like, incredibly fancy. Out there waiting for you. [00:17:43] Speaker F: And I think for a second I, like, squint, trying to. I think I have sunglasses on. And I'm kind of texting. I don't even know what season it is. Honestly, it doesn't matter. I'm always cold. Just kind of squinting like, oh, which one is this? It doesn't fucking matter. Hey, boo. [00:18:02] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:18:03] Speaker A: And as you open the the passenger door and slide in, it is Cal, the photographer. [00:18:13] Speaker F: I lean over, give Cal a little kiss on the cheek. Good morning. [00:18:19] Speaker A: He kind of gives you the head nod and says, morning. [00:18:25] Speaker F: Are you okay? [00:18:29] Speaker A: It kind of just gives you kind of a shrug and just says, late night last night, you know? [00:18:35] Speaker F: Sits very pretty in the seats beside. Turns her whole body. Blinks eyes, big brown eyes, softly. You want to tell me about it? [00:18:47] Speaker A: We do have time before we get to school. You don't mind me boring you? [00:18:56] Speaker F: I place an arm. I place a hand on his arm. Probably the one that's closest. That's not driving. Sharing secrets is never a burden, sweetie. And also, I got you something. And reaches into the bag and grabs a generic fucking granola bar. I really enjoy this one. My mom bought it. And honestly, it helps Saint Cliente better. So here and tell me about all your troubles. [00:19:26] Speaker A: And roll to turn someone on. [00:19:31] Speaker F: That's gonna be a 8. [00:19:34] Speaker A: I think Cal will give you a string. Love it. [00:19:39] Speaker F: We love to see it. Yeah. [00:19:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:44] Speaker A: And he launches into the story of whatever he did last night as he drives off. And we cut to Riley. What is your morning like? [00:19:54] Speaker D: Riley gets up at like 5am ish. And just sits and waits until 6, when they know that their grandmother is going to, like, wake them up to get ready because they're just not ready to get up at right at 6. And their grandmother's like, you have to get out. You have to get up, you have to move, you have to do things. They sort of have like, Various herbs throughout the house that their grandmother wants them to, like, tend to and take care of in the morning. So that's sort of like the big, like, get up and do these things because you have to do them in the morning before you get ready. And then after sort of going around and messing with all the herbs, they eat breakfast and then, you know, they get ready for the day. I think it's just a very casual, like, throw things on mood most of the time. And then they ask if their grandmother is bringing them to school or if they have to catch the bus. And I want to say this time she'll bring Riley, but it's sort of a, like, rapid speed, like from six. Like, everything is just happening in rapid succession. And then it's like, are you bringing me to school? And that's sort of their, like, morning routine. [00:21:21] Speaker A: I'll say, yeah, you get a ride to school and, yeah, you. Everyone's heading to Rosedale, and I have to ask Daisy, how's your morning going? [00:21:35] Speaker B: Great. Woke up, threw on my classic, which is cheerleader uniform. Hair's curled, bit rushed out of the door. Mom wanted me to eat breakfast. I did not want to eat breakfast. And so throw Nate in the back. Back seat. He climbs into the front. I hate when he sits in the front with me, but it's whatever. And we head off to school. [00:21:59] Speaker A: Eventually, we reconvene in the first period, which is a English literature class taught by a Mrs. Bennet. Everybody is coming and finding their seats, and Daisy, you're probably one of the last ones to walk in. Running a little bit late, but the bell hasn't rung yet, so you're not late late yet. [00:22:24] Speaker B: I'll walk in and take my. My spot right by one of my besties, slide in. Kind of give her, like, a little bit of a nudge. [00:22:34] Speaker F: Melody, who is fully asleep, you bump. And she's like, huh, huh? [00:22:42] Speaker B: Girl, we gotta get you some coffee or something. [00:22:45] Speaker F: Oh, no, that shit doesn't work. Daisy. Hi. [00:22:49] Speaker A: Hi. [00:22:49] Speaker B: How are you? [00:22:50] Speaker F: Good morning. [00:22:51] Speaker B: Good morning. [00:22:53] Speaker F: So awake and feeling good today? [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Why are you feeling good? [00:23:00] Speaker F: Because Cal gave me a ride to school today. [00:23:03] Speaker B: Stop. Tell me everything. [00:23:06] Speaker F: And she begins to. She verbatim recites whatever the fuck level of that Cal told her about, like, the night. And it's like, yeah, it was really good. And, you know, we talked and we talked and something, something. How are you? [00:23:29] Speaker B: I'm doing all right. Had the house to myself for a little bit last night and then slept really hard. Slept like a rock. And it felt Like I was dead for a minute there. Yeah, Doing all right. [00:23:44] Speaker F: And Melody, I'm. I'm sorry, what was that one part? [00:23:52] Speaker B: I mean, you know, like people like. Oh, I slept like the dead. [00:23:57] Speaker F: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I. I mean, I don't really sleep at all, I'm going to be honest. [00:24:05] Speaker B: Damn, girl. Your life. I love it. [00:24:08] Speaker A: Right? [00:24:08] Speaker F: Hot girl. [00:24:12] Speaker B: Spring taco spring. Dude, do you think Cal's gonna ask you to prom? [00:24:21] Speaker F: Maybe. I think so. [00:24:23] Speaker B: Would you say yes? [00:24:25] Speaker F: If it's a good enough proposal? [00:24:28] Speaker B: Girl, I love it. [00:24:31] Speaker F: And she kind of stretches and shakes out her two big white puffs. Almost as if again, she's just waking up for the first time. What about you? Who? You got any? And then looks around at the class. Do you have anyone you're thinking of? I mean, a pretty girl like you. And she kind of says that. Eyes lingering a little bit too long [00:25:02] Speaker B: maybe. I mean, a few people have shown, but nothing stood out quite yet. You know, waiting to be wowed. [00:25:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:25:19] Speaker F: And then she's like. And what about. And then just kind of finger trails. Trails, trails, trails, trails to him. [00:25:30] Speaker C: Yoo. [00:25:32] Speaker F: Quinn. [00:25:35] Speaker E: What? [00:25:38] Speaker F: Good morning. Come here, come here, come here. [00:25:43] Speaker C: He's gonna flip. He's gonna. He was sketching earlier, so he's gonna flip. Close the sketchbook. [00:25:48] Speaker E: What? [00:25:48] Speaker F: Melody, do you have any? And she's kind of like rubbing at the collar of her shirt. Just kind of like opening it. Tracing neckline. Do you have anyone that you're going to ask to prom? [00:26:04] Speaker C: Prom's a social construct. I don't really care about it. [00:26:07] Speaker F: And it's a social construct that we all engage in. So do you have anyone who you're going to construct as a date? [00:26:16] Speaker C: Just like pinching the bridge of his nose. [00:26:18] Speaker A: Why do I involve myself in this all damn time? [00:26:22] Speaker C: No, I do not. That's going to get you off my back. [00:26:27] Speaker E: Okay. [00:26:27] Speaker F: Good to know. You're dismissed. Unless you want to talk more. [00:26:32] Speaker C: Yeah, no, I'm good. [00:26:35] Speaker F: She visibly pouts. [00:26:37] Speaker B: I'm going to lean over to Melody. It's like, might have got you off his back, but I'd like to get him on his back. [00:26:42] Speaker A: You know what I mean? [00:26:44] Speaker F: That's right. It's like Monster in the Morning as she's literally cracking open a monster. It's like. Wait, what is it? It's like a vault in the morning as she's literally cracking open a can of vault. [00:26:59] Speaker A: Yeah. And as all of you are doing this one, Meadow is coming by everyone's desks and handing you this sort of like flyer and proclaiming, party at our house tonight. You're not there. You're not cool. And you are all given flyers for a party that happens every couple of weeks. And it's at the largest house in the city, so. So it's kind of more of a status symbol that Meadow is doing this rather than any actual informing. Because you all know where it is and when it is. Because it happens every couple of weeks. [00:27:43] Speaker B: Are you gonna go? [00:27:46] Speaker F: She is fully locked out of the conversation. Is texting when the flyer comes in, like. Huh? What? Looks at it. [00:27:53] Speaker B: Are you. Are you going to Meadows tonight? [00:27:56] Speaker F: For what? I mean, yes. Yes. Yes, I am. Yes. Are you. [00:28:00] Speaker B: Are you sleep? You want to ride together? I understand that we might not leave together and that's fine. [00:28:09] Speaker F: There's a very long, thoughtful. Like she's trying to do math. I think I'm here. Let me check. [00:28:18] Speaker B: Do you want to just let me know later? [00:28:19] Speaker F: No, no, hold on, hold on. And then she's like looking around for her. Where. Where is she? Where's Verity? [00:28:31] Speaker E: Us. [00:28:33] Speaker F: And then kind of literally like turns to the same angle that you probably always looks too. Ah, yes. Are we. Are we riding together to the party tonight? [00:28:47] Speaker E: I mean, I can pick you up if you want. [00:28:50] Speaker F: I know. I'm just like. Did we. I'm just checking if we had like pre established plans to ride together. Actually, can we please ride to the. She's like wish. She's like wish. Hey, hey. You and me, we're gonna ride to the edge of the party, man. [00:29:06] Speaker E: If you want to. [00:29:07] Speaker F: Yes, yes, I do. And then turns to Daisy. I'm riding with Verity, so you can. Oh, come with or. [00:29:17] Speaker B: I mean, would that be okay? [00:29:22] Speaker E: She want to. [00:29:23] Speaker B: Awesome. Do we want to meet somewhere or would you. I don't live far from Melody. Just want to Scoop Would ve already [00:29:32] Speaker E: know your addresses or. [00:29:35] Speaker B: How big is this class? Clearly we all know how big is the high school. [00:29:40] Speaker F: That's a good question. [00:29:41] Speaker A: The entire graduating class is probably like 300. [00:29:46] Speaker C: Okay. [00:29:46] Speaker F: Okay. That's like. [00:29:48] Speaker B: That's like a small, small, large town. [00:29:51] Speaker C: Yeah. Not terrible. [00:29:53] Speaker F: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I see the vision. [00:29:56] Speaker A: So there's like probably like 20 of you in this class. [00:30:01] Speaker B: So maybe at some point Verity has come to Daisies for a group project. I could see being the thing. [00:30:08] Speaker E: Yeah, I mean, I guess that, that'll work. Yeah. [00:30:13] Speaker B: And then my mom doesn't have to worry about me taking her car. You know, she can just have it. And then I don't have to be back as early because they don't. Anyway, yeah. [00:30:27] Speaker F: Have a late night. [00:30:30] Speaker E: I mean, I can't stay up too late. I got a lot of homework to do. [00:30:34] Speaker B: But it's a Friday though. [00:30:37] Speaker F: I mean, don't. I can get someone to do that for you if you want. [00:30:42] Speaker E: I'm the person that does people's homework. [00:30:48] Speaker F: I'm sure there's a smart boy out there that'll do our homework. That for you? Take a night off, please. And she puts both hands on your hand. I would. Please. I really want to hang out with you tonight. [00:31:07] Speaker E: Okay. I guess that works for me then. [00:31:12] Speaker D: Sure. [00:31:15] Speaker F: Very softly, very gently. She is kind of looking at you. [00:31:20] Speaker C: Yes. [00:31:22] Speaker A: I guess that leaves you, Riley. You're also handed one of these flyers for this party. [00:31:30] Speaker D: I think Riley is just like watching the rest of the people in the class react to this and is thinking, it seems like my majority of the people are going and not going would be a bad thing. And then sort of folds the flyer up and puts it in the notebook. Says, I guess I have to figure out a way there. He's like debating whether to ask their grandmother to drive them or to see if someone else will give hitch a ride with another person and is to going. Going back and forth between both of those. And then just like lays their head on their notebook and is like, I don't know what I'm doing, but I'll get there. [00:32:21] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean you've got. You've got options. You've got you plenty of other people in this class going. And I don't know how friendly you are with any of them, but you can probably talk somebody into giving you a ride. [00:32:35] Speaker D: But yeah, I think it's like this moment of like, I don't know what I want to do. So they kind of just like lay their head on their desk and wait for the teacher to start talking. [00:32:47] Speaker A: Eventually the teacher does come in and you are all discussing the classic book the Turn of the Screw. And it. We sort of flash through the school day a little bit as we eventually find you all at lunch. It is the Rosedale High School is kind of built in that like sort of open pattern. It has a lot of these open like corridors between buildings and it has a lot of these atriums because until very recently the whole big thing about the town was these flowers and nature, which has kind of been going a little bit by the wayside as the town gets smaller and smaller and more and more people leave. But there is still some beauty of it. And you all find yourselves out in the middle of One of these atriums spread out or hanging out together, eating lunch. And as you're looking around you see Meadow yet again handing out more flyers. It looks like she is handing out flyers to pretty much the entire senior class at this point. [00:34:07] Speaker E: I don't want that many people gonna fit in that house. [00:34:14] Speaker B: She would have learned by last time. [00:34:17] Speaker F: Didn't the fire department have to come and like break the whole thing up? [00:34:22] Speaker B: Oh yeah, the last two parties. [00:34:27] Speaker F: It looks like she's inviting more people. What is she trying to. What is this? Party X? That's what it was called. [00:34:35] Speaker B: But I mean at least all of the valuable bases are already broken. [00:34:41] Speaker F: I'm sure we could find another one. [00:34:45] Speaker B: True. [00:34:49] Speaker E: I don't know if we should be talking about breaking personal property at school. [00:34:55] Speaker B: I mean, is anyone listening? [00:35:01] Speaker E: Maybe. I feel like everyone's always listening. It's high school. [00:35:08] Speaker B: I mean it's high school. Everyone's self absorbed. [00:35:15] Speaker E: Yes, [00:35:17] Speaker F: well, maybe you're right. You know what? I'm going to turn a new leaf. Oh, I'm not going to break any vases tonight. [00:35:31] Speaker E: Wow, [00:35:34] Speaker B: it is a new day for Melody Grace. Is there anything that she can't do? [00:35:42] Speaker F: She sits very cute. I'm assuming we're like sitting outside. She like sits very cutely, looks at you very genuinely, very gently with her big brown eyes and says no, I can't and won't do a single thing. [00:35:58] Speaker B: That's what I'm talking about. You love to hear it. [00:36:05] Speaker F: But you, you were asking, what are you gonna wear tonight? [00:36:10] Speaker B: I don't know. Verity, what are you gonna wear? [00:36:15] Speaker E: I feel like what I'm wearing now is pretty nice. Verity's way. Wearing very preppy, like very nice quality preppy clothes that normally would probably be seen in like a fancy like private school environment, but she just likes wearing it. Looks cool like she does. She thinks so. [00:36:44] Speaker B: Okay, we definitely need to get you a sluttier top for tonight. [00:36:51] Speaker F: Or a nice, very bodily covering sweater. [00:37:02] Speaker B: I like this one like that. [00:37:08] Speaker F: You know who's gonna. You know who I think is really good at outfit planning and whose closet I want to raid? Riley's. [00:37:23] Speaker B: Where is she? [00:37:24] Speaker F: I don't know. And then truly again, like she's a lost. Like this is the first time she's ever been on planet Earth. Just kind of looks around. [00:37:33] Speaker D: I don't know, I think Riley is kind of like just like off the edge of like the central place where everyone's sitting and just reading a book. Like sitting, sitting on top of a table and sort of like instinctively looks up like, is someone talking about me? And I think sees Melody and is like, why me? And I'm like, what. What are you guys talking about? This, like, across the. Across the whole thing. And then we'll slowly start to walk over there. [00:38:14] Speaker F: She's waving, like, so excited, so genuinely. She's waving you over. Riley. Riley. Riley. Hi. Sweet. I want to raid your closet tonight. [00:38:27] Speaker D: I suppose that's fine. Do you have, like, something in mind or just, like, you just want to look? [00:38:36] Speaker F: Well, I like your look. You always have this kind of like, Sabrina meets, like, not Sabrina vibe. [00:38:48] Speaker B: It's like practical magic meets, like, high school. [00:38:55] Speaker F: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm like. And I'm trying to steal that. Well, with, like, my own spin. Like, maybe like something that would take, like, you know, catch the eye of a certain someone, certain heartthrob. [00:39:11] Speaker D: Yeah, no, no, definitely. Definitely have some. Some things that could help you with this, I guess. Do you want to do this, like, right after school or, like, most likely then I'll have to go and try to coerce my grandmother to drive me to this party. [00:39:31] Speaker F: Well, I mean, I can ask my driver, our driver, if you can fit into the car. [00:39:40] Speaker D: That would be easier than convincing my grandmother to drive me to a party. [00:39:49] Speaker F: Melody looks over at Verity, not really pleading, just. She put it out there and is waiting for, like, an answer. [00:40:02] Speaker E: I guess, if you want to, it's fine. [00:40:06] Speaker D: Sounds good. So, yeah, we can. We can meet after school and just try to figure out something. Seems legit. [00:40:19] Speaker A: Quinn, I have to ask, as the seer, how do your visions manifest? [00:40:27] Speaker C: So I think the way I envisioned it was that they don't. He doesn't really have exactly. Like, he doesn't really have an exact control over them. They just tend to happen whenever and wherever. It's not really something he's been able to sort of nail down how exactly they work. [00:40:45] Speaker A: Well, why don't you roll me a gaze into the abyss? [00:40:49] Speaker C: 6 +2 8. [00:40:52] Speaker A: On any 7 to 9, the abyss will show you confusing and alarming evisions. But you get your answers nonetheless. Answers not necessarily to a question you asked, but as you. You're kind of sitting there in a moment, it's. It just kind of like hits you and it's like a flash. It's a flash of a mask, this animal mask with flowers spray painted gold and someone with a knife in their hands. And they are advancing towards whoever. You're looking through yourself, other people you don't know. And you hear the scream and then suddenly you're back at lunch. And there is no one in any masks and there is nobody getting stabbed. [00:41:43] Speaker C: Not again. He's just like, clutching, like, rub his temples because, like, he's found that whenever he's get a vision like that, it would always cause him some form of like, headache that he's not necessarily fond of, especially when he doesn't have pain meds for that. Right. So he's just sort of like clutching, rubbing his temples before flipping to an open page in a sketchbook and just starting to sketch out whatever it is he saw. Mainly focusing on the animal mask the. That he saw. [00:42:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:14] Speaker A: You. You are working on that as everybody else continues their. Their outfit ride. Questions for tonight. And how close are you sitting to the rest of the group? Are you, like, close enough to just listen? [00:42:29] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely close enough to listen. They definitely could. If they could look around, they definitely would see me fairly close by. So if they notice we. What happened to Quinn. Yeah, it'd be fairly noticeable. Yeah. [00:42:39] Speaker A: You will probably like, maybe out of the corner of your eye, notice, like, Quinn, like, rub at their forehead and then start drawing. [00:42:48] Speaker B: You okay, Quinn? I have some ibuprofen in my locker if you need it. [00:42:53] Speaker A: Yeah, sure. [00:42:54] Speaker C: That'll be great. [00:42:55] Speaker B: Okay, I'm gonna jump off the. I assume I'm sitting on a half ball for some reason and I'm gonna go get some ibuprofen out of my locker. [00:43:06] Speaker F: Quinn, maybe you should go with her to get the ibuprofen. I mean, you look like you have a really big headache. [00:43:15] Speaker E: It's fine. [00:43:15] Speaker D: I gotta. [00:43:16] Speaker C: I gotta finish this. I wanna jot it down before it leaves my memory. [00:43:21] Speaker B: I'm gonna come back with the ibuprofen. It's like a small bottle. I'm gonna like, peek at the drawing and say what you drawing? [00:43:31] Speaker C: It's very clearly the mask. [00:43:34] Speaker D: Oh. [00:43:35] Speaker B: Oh. What's. What's this? [00:43:40] Speaker C: Just something I was drawing. [00:43:43] Speaker B: Why is it from something? [00:43:48] Speaker C: It just sort of came to me. [00:43:51] Speaker B: Oh. How long have you been drawing? [00:43:55] Speaker C: Since high school started. So I guess freshman year. [00:43:59] Speaker B: Oh. Have you ever drawn people? [00:44:04] Speaker E: Sure. [00:44:05] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:44:07] Speaker B: Well, let me know if you ever need a model. [00:44:10] Speaker A: Well, sure. [00:44:12] Speaker C: Yeah. He'll take the ibuprofen. Sort of down a couple and then just take a swig of water. Thanks. [00:44:21] Speaker B: Of course I'll wink and go back to my seat. [00:44:26] Speaker A: Yeah, Daisy. That's same mask. [00:44:31] Speaker C: Whatever. [00:44:32] Speaker A: Whatever Daisy decides to do about that. That is up to Daisy. [00:44:36] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:44:40] Speaker A: Just for my edification, toss me a. Keep your cool real quick. [00:44:46] Speaker B: We. We out here. I rolled a perfect 12 minus 1 and 11. You. [00:44:50] Speaker A: You do keep your cool and you can ask me a question about the situation and take one forward acting on that information. [00:44:57] Speaker B: Do I remember Quinn's face when I walked in this morning? [00:45:02] Speaker A: I would say so. [00:45:05] Speaker B: Did he look surprised? [00:45:10] Speaker D: I don't know. [00:45:11] Speaker A: Quinn, did you look surprised to see Daisy this morning? [00:45:14] Speaker C: Not really. [00:45:16] Speaker B: I'm going to sit at a place where I can kind of like peek and see if there's anything else that gets added to the drawing. [00:45:25] Speaker A: Are you just focusing on the mask? Are you doing anything else, Quinn? [00:45:28] Speaker C: Just the mask, I think for now. Just the mask. At least while it's still fresh in his brain. Later on he might add some more stuff to it. [00:45:35] Speaker A: But yeah, all the rest of you, just see Daisy bring Quinn's mightuprofen, chat about something that Quinn is drawing and then sit back down like nothing happened. Like this is a very, very normal day. [00:45:51] Speaker B: Very normal. Just normal Friday, normal week, normal month. Nothing's happening. Going to a party tonight? Yep. Just a normal teenager. [00:46:04] Speaker A: And. And so eventually you all get to lunch ends. You continue going through your classes. Does anyone have any events that they would stay after school for? [00:46:20] Speaker E: Yeah, Verite probably has volleyball practice for a couple of hours at least. [00:46:29] Speaker A: After practice. [00:46:31] Speaker E: Okay. [00:46:33] Speaker B: Cheerleading. [00:46:35] Speaker C: Quinn would probably be people watching, just randomly sketching people that he sees leaving school. Just kind of. Yeah, people watching. Probably the best thing would be to describe that. [00:46:46] Speaker F: I think Melody is actually watching Verity's volleyball, or I should say is present for volleyball practice. Is kind of sitting up on the. Like I'm sitting because it's inside is sitting up on the highest point of like the bleachers and far too much energy drink for 4pm in the afternoon. [00:47:05] Speaker A: It's not a specific roll that I need to make, but could everybody roll me a D6 and tell me what number you get? [00:47:17] Speaker E: Six for me. [00:47:19] Speaker D: Four out of five. [00:47:21] Speaker C: Six. [00:47:24] Speaker F: Two. [00:47:25] Speaker A: Verity and Quinn through both. Both through different things. Like as Verity, as you're doing [00:47:37] Speaker E: doing [00:47:38] Speaker A: volleyball practice, you see at one point Cal comes in because he's. He's on the yearbook. So he. It's his job to show up to a lot of these events and just take photos for. For the yearbook, he is there and he's got his just bag of camera equipment and is snapping photos for a little while. [00:48:06] Speaker F: And [00:48:08] Speaker A: Verity, at one point you look over and there's something in the pack. Like it's kind of shiny and it catches your attention for a moment. It doesn't look like camera equipment. [00:48:21] Speaker E: We're on a rotation behind preserving Can I take a quick peek at what I see there? [00:48:31] Speaker A: Roll me a gaze into deepest. [00:48:33] Speaker E: That is a 10. [00:48:35] Speaker A: As you do, and you're sort of like peeking over Kal. His sort of like kneeling down. He is swapping out the film in his camera. Because 1999 digital cameras aren't incredibly common. They're very expensive, and the school certainly doesn't pay for them. You know, he is swapping out the film in his camera and the bag opens a little bit more and you sort of see this sort of sprayed. Sprayed gold item, these sort of flowers that are sprayed gold. And before it's kind of like shoved a little bit deeper in his bag. Swaps out the roll of film. [00:49:14] Speaker E: Does it perchance look like the drawing that Quinn was making? [00:49:22] Speaker A: If you'd seen the drawing and you'd see part of it, it definitely looks like part of it because it looks like one of the sides, it had these flowers that were coming off the side of the skull. [00:49:32] Speaker E: Really probably doesn't take it that seriously. Like, it's, you know, oh, it's interesting. It's cool. You know, maybe Quinn spotted it somewhere and it was an interesting thing. You know, she's just gonna go back. She's just gonna. Obviously, a lot of. A lot of the girls that play volleyball are on the taller side. Faride is a good 2 to 3 inches taller than every other person on the team. Pretty, pretty, pretty scary shot, if she wants to be. [00:50:07] Speaker A: But Quinn, as you are sort of sitting there sketching, at some point, you see Cal walking across campus. He isn't. He's like looking down at something on his camera. He's not paying attention. He runs into someone else. And the bag that he has on his shoulder kind of like goes sprawling. And then suddenly he's like trying to just gather everything up and put it back in the bag. And that's when you see it falling out of the bag is the mask. And he grabs it quickly and hurriedly shoves it in the bag before sort of double timing. Looks like he's headed back towards the dark rooms. [00:50:59] Speaker C: Wayne would definitely be shaken at seeing the mask fall out of Cal's bag. So he would definitely follow him to the dark rooms. [00:51:07] Speaker A: Yeah, it's sort of in one of the corners of the school, there's the photography room. It's not a. It doesn't have that. It's like one of the electives that doesn't have a ton of people, so. And it's after school. So as. Like, as you're entering the photography room, you kind of watch that double door like slide close and the light pop on for the dark room and use. [00:51:31] Speaker C: Yeah. I think Quinn would know not to probably disturb anything in terms of dark room being used. If it is. If Cal is actually using it to develop photos. [00:51:40] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:51:41] Speaker A: You do know that it is a double door system. So if you open up one door, it's not going to destroy everything in there. [00:51:49] Speaker C: I think Quinn. Yeah, I think Quinn would enter. I guess just in that case. See act like he's doing another photography project. He would have used the dark rooms at some point. So. [00:51:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why don't you roll to keep your cool 77 and on a 7 to 9 until your actions leave you vulnerable and you could choose to back down or go along with it. I'm pretty sure it's pretty obvious. As far as you can tell there is no one else in the dark room. So you would be putting yourself in an enclosed room with somebody who may or may not have malicious intentions. [00:52:30] Speaker C: I think he's willing to take the risk. So I think Quinn will enter. [00:52:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:34] Speaker A: No. And you push open that other door and kind of enter the sort of the red light bathed room off in the corner. You can kind of see by one of some of the image projection machines that they use to project the image onto the photo paper. You see Cal who is kind of going through something and muttering softly to himself. [00:53:03] Speaker C: I wonder if it's possible for me to hide at least. At least escape Cal's gaze if he's looking around or anything. Just to get some cover and hide. I think. [00:53:15] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:53:17] Speaker A: It feels like another keep your cool roll. [00:53:19] Speaker C: Alrighty. That is another seven. [00:53:24] Speaker A: Another seven. You can get closer but it's. It is not the biggest room. So you do run the chance of getting noticed at some point if you get closer to him. Like he hasn't noticed you right now because he's kind of just in his. In his own head and working. [00:53:44] Speaker C: Yeah, we'll take the risk. Yeah. So I'll try to see if I can get inch a little bit closer to Cal. See if I can make out what he's either saying or if possible get close enough to the back to actually see if he's doing anything with the mask. [00:53:58] Speaker A: As you inch closer, you hear him mutter. It makes no sense. It makes no sense. How is she here? [00:54:13] Speaker E: I. [00:54:15] Speaker A: She's. I dealt with her last night. How is she still here? And yeah, no, you inch close closer and he. The. His like bag of supplies isn't anywhere near him. It's on like one of the nearby tables, because you didn't expect anybody else to come in here. And, yeah, you can. Under the glow of this red light, you can see the. The mask in the bag kind of reflecting that light. [00:54:50] Speaker C: It's. [00:54:53] Speaker A: And it's at that moment where you're trying to move around one of these tables when you knock into something and one of these metal trays just falls right off the table. And immediately his head just sort of looks up and he's looking around, trying to see who's there. [00:55:17] Speaker C: I wonder if one of my skills would actually be preferable here. Conspiracy web. [00:55:24] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that would certainly, certainly, definitely come into play here. Cal is certainly connected to a mystery and a strange event, and that means [00:55:38] Speaker C: I get one string on him, and I also gain an additional fate to [00:55:42] Speaker E: use [00:55:44] Speaker C: in that case. I think I'm going to see if I can actually do a little bit of fun here. I'm actually going to reveal myself. [00:55:50] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:55:52] Speaker C: I'll sort of play it off, essentially. Sorry, I wasn't really looking. I didn't realize the room is in use. Light always gets me whenever I come in. [00:56:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Give me a keep your cool roll. [00:56:07] Speaker E: Okay. [00:56:09] Speaker A: And you can immediately tag that string to gain a plus one on that. [00:56:14] Speaker C: Yeah, I would like to do that. [00:56:15] Speaker E: Okay. [00:56:16] Speaker C: That's seven plus one. [00:56:17] Speaker A: Eight. I. I will say, like, if. If you continue going along with this story, I will count it as backing down because you. It's the story you're spitting definitely de. Escalates the situation of, hey, man, I didn't know anybody was in here. [00:56:30] Speaker C: Right. [00:56:30] Speaker A: And especially if you're making, like, either, like, I'm gonna leave or, you know, I'm gonna go away. I'm not going to push anything that's going on. If you continue with that. Yeah. He's not going to, you know, attack you here. [00:56:45] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:56:45] Speaker C: I think definitely antagonizing him with the way he was murdering. Might not be the right move. Yeah. [00:56:51] Speaker A: Might not be the right move. [00:56:52] Speaker C: So I think Quinn's definitely gonna go with the story that, like, oh, sorry, didn't know it was in here. I'll just back out. [00:56:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:59] Speaker A: And, you know, just Deadlights, man got me on edge. [00:57:07] Speaker C: No, I get it. I get it. [00:57:09] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:57:09] Speaker C: I mean, you do some good work for the yearbook, so. [00:57:12] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:57:14] Speaker C: Well, I'll leave you be then. See. [00:57:17] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:57:17] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:57:18] Speaker A: Dear End. [00:57:20] Speaker C: Oh, I think. I think before he would leave, he would ask one final question. Oh, you heard about that party at Melody's? [00:57:30] Speaker A: Everyone has you going. Yeah, I'm. I think I'm meeting Melody there. [00:57:39] Speaker C: Okay. [00:57:40] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:57:41] Speaker F: All right. [00:57:42] Speaker C: Well, yeah, don't mind me. And he'll use that to sort of make his escape. [00:57:47] Speaker A: Yeah, you. You do. And something is certain up here in Rosetail, California. And as you exit the dark room and come back out into the light of the classroom, that is where we'll end our first session as school is done.
