Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello, and welcome back to another tyrants of the dark Star prologue. I am aubrey, your GM, and I will toss it over to Alyssa to tell you who they're playing.
[00:00:11] Speaker B: Hello. Hello. I'm Alyssa, and I am playing Laithe Idrisi today.
[00:00:17] Speaker A: Yes, it is our fourth prologue, if you want to listen to the rest. They're in the feed, and, you know, kind of catch up on meeting everyone's characters, but getting into things.
We see the same cell we have seen several times before as another person is brought back overhead and shoved in. Cell is getting a little crowded now, but it's fine. But we will jump back in time to the last day of the harvest festival.
And this is the day where all of the harvest, at this point has been brought in. People are selling in the markets, and people have parties. People celebrate. This used to be one of those nights where it was. It was the autumn equinox, you know, would be a comparable event.
People have parties. People have massive feasts, and just sort of toast to the end of the year starting to end, and you're headed to one of those parties in the.
In silver court. There is.
There is a massive mansion that belongs to Victoria and Nikolai Verta, who are the senators for the district.
They are kind of up and coming, very powerful political people.
They graduated from Ravenswood Academy a few years ago and have just climbed their way up the ladder.
And, of course, anybody that is anybody is getting invited to this party.
So question and just chance to describe a little bit about what Laeth looks like. Tell us a little bit about them and what they would be wearing to a party like this.
[00:02:46] Speaker B: Yeah. So, Laithe is an ayuvarin, the new mixed elf human.
And she has sort of dark eyes, a wide, aquiline nose, a strong jawline, warm bronze skin. I think that it is scattered with gold piercing, some of which are sort of more natural designs than she might normally wear, you know, in deference for the harvest festival. And she has this long, thick, white hair that is worn down for once, falling in sort of loose waves down to her hips.
She is always sort of a picture of artful dishevelment, and getting ready for this party is no different, I think she's wearing a sort of subtly embroidered white shirt that is carelessly pushed up to her forearms and unbuttoned almost to her waist, revealing sort of unmarred skin, except for the edges of some well heeled top surgery scars over that, she wears a vest that is sort of deep red brocade. Again, the sort of harvest autumnal patterns that has been very carefully tailored to accommodate the open wear of her shirt. So there's no, you know, excess fabric there and then otherwise, just tight trousers, very tall, brown leather boots up to her thighs. And I think that usually she has sort of very long, dark painted nails, but for once, all of her nails are cut short. And she wears a signet ring with her house crest on one finger and another sort of broader ring that is delicately made out of several pieces. It's basically a fancy fidget ring, but it looks nice. No one else needs to know that. It's because she needs something to do with her hands.
[00:05:09] Speaker A: I won't say anything.
And you are finishing getting ready at home.
Question, do you think that, well, your sister is still here, is she? Right.
[00:05:28] Speaker B: I mean, I was hoping she was gone already, but she can still be here.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: I will say, like, you're really close to getting everything settled, but it hasn't happened yet. So you're, as you are leaving and getting ready for this party, you see your sister Nadia, she's hard at work in her books, and she goes.
[00:06:05] Speaker B: I.
[00:06:06] Speaker A: Am, im very surprised that her mother isnt making me go to this.
[00:06:18] Speaker B: She probably realizes that youre going to be doing more than enough socializing soon.
Theres no reason to force you to this one last party.
And I think Laith sort of dips down, kisses the top of her head and says, I'm sure that I'll represent the family perfectly well without you.
[00:06:43] Speaker A: Sure. Yeah. I'm not sure how much I believe you in that, but yeah, yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine. I mean, you can't do worse than our mother.
[00:06:55] Speaker B: Such faint praise.
Who knows? You have to be nice to me, Nadia. Otherwise I'll be the one making you come.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: It's just like, yeah, you'll be great. You'll be fine. I'm sure you'll find someone lovely to spend your time with.
[00:07:17] Speaker B: Have fun with your books.
[00:07:19] Speaker A: Holds up the book that she's reading currently and says, yeah, I'll be here.
And you know that your mother has already left for the, uh, for the, um, party.
And as you leave the house and head out into the silver court, you can see that the eclipse is set for now. And the stars are the brightest they will ever be for this part of the year. And the two moons are perfectly aligned and people are standing out on balconies just kind of enjoying the sight because it's times like this where people get to pretend like everything's fine, that there isn't a giant eclipse in our sky and everything is going to be fine and can just continue lying to themselves for a little bit longer.
As you walk across the district to the massive mansion which the twins inherited when their parents died, and as you approach, it's already full of people, full of life.
People are waiting outside. There are people milling about. You can hear the sound of music and revelry and laughter.
[00:08:53] Speaker B: How exclusive is this party? Obviously, anyone who's anyone is going to be there, but are there also a lot of other people? Or is it a fairly.
[00:09:03] Speaker A: There's your normal hangers on who want to be somebody that will show up and hope that someone who is somebody will take pity on them and bring them inside is their plus one.
[00:09:19] Speaker B: Laith will not be doing that.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: Oh, of course, you would have your invitation, which is lovingly printed on this beautiful vellum with a wax seal and big, swoopy cursive. And it's anything you could think of, a fancy invitation. This thing checks that box and, yeah, if you give it to the guards, uh, you know, at the gate, that will let you on through into the party.
[00:09:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I think that sort of going into the party, Laith doesn't have much of an agenda other than to sort of see and be seen.
But I think that the sort of polite thing to do is say hello and thank the hosts. So she'll start off by sort of looking around for either of the twins.
[00:10:19] Speaker A: Yeah, it doesn't take that long to find them. They are kind of set at the head of the ballroom in what is a step below a throne, for now, at least, while people are filing in before the actual nights events are started. Do you see?
You see Victoria and Nikolai, these two twins that are attached to the hip. You rarely see one without the other.
Technically, the job of a senator is only supposed to go to one person, but they've split it between the both of them and they're just too powerful for anybody to say no.
And Victoria will see you and just be like, laithe, darling, it's lovely to see you.
[00:11:11] Speaker B: Victoria. Your manor looks beautiful for the festival.
[00:11:20] Speaker A: The servants have been hard at work all week preparing for this.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sure. And you, you look incredible as well. And Nikolai.
[00:11:31] Speaker A: And Nikolai will sort of move, stand next to his sister. And Victoria is wearing a beautiful red gown that sort of contrasts against her pale skin. And her red hair is in the sort of massive buns on the side of her head, which are weaved through with this golden thread.
And Im going to ask you to make a perception check.
25 25.
And you notice among all of both of them, they are wearing a necklace that, to most people, wouldn't look like much. It is a golden chain with a golden loop.
It's small, and most people would just think it's just regular jewelry. But you've seen it before. It is the symbol of the unbroken.
And I don't know if you were aware of it, but you're relatively sure that both of them are damfir as well. Um, they kind of have a lot of the same signs that you are used to seeing in the mirror.
The slightly too sharp canines, you know, the. The sk. The skin that is, like, slightly paler than a normal person's. You know, the pinprick pupils.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that Laithe carefully does not react to noticing the necklace and just sort of looks Victoria up and down again and says, oh, you're actually very well coordinated. I suppose that means we have to dance, at least at some point tonight.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: Oh, yes, yes. When the dancing starts, come find me. I will. I would love to share a dance with you.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: Of course.
[00:13:51] Speaker A: Yeah. And just goes, I don't want to monopolize your time. There are plenty of people here to meet and plenty of refreshments.
[00:14:01] Speaker B: Yeah. And with her sort of final pleasantries laced, we'll leave and go mingle.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: Is there anyone that you're looking for here?
[00:14:12] Speaker B: I think that she looks around. She doesn't expect it, but they're sort of always in the back of her mind, wanting to see if this is a party to which Alouette was invited, chose to attend.
[00:14:34] Speaker A: Unfortunately, I don't think you see Elouette.
[00:14:38] Speaker B: But other than that.
I'm sorry. Did you say that my mother is supposed to be attending this party?
[00:14:45] Speaker A: She's somewhere here.
[00:14:47] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Laith will look around, and if she notices her, do her best to avoid her and avoid being seen by her, but is otherwise just content to.
This is, I think, a rare occasion of, like, no, I'm actually just attending this party. There's nothing like. No rumors I'm trying to spread. There's nothing I'm trying to get out of it. It's just, like, genuinely a feast, a festival.
[00:15:18] Speaker A: It is. And, yeah, you see her. She is with her usual catray of other nobles that, you know, she travels around with, most of them, probably all members of the unbroken.
[00:15:33] Speaker B: I was gonna ask, does my mother wear a necklace like that, or is she not that gauche?
[00:15:40] Speaker A: She.
She doesn't have a necklace like that, but she has other jewelry that sort of shows off her allegiances.
[00:15:55] Speaker B: Fair enough.
[00:15:56] Speaker A: Yeah. And let's see.
And give me one more perception check to sort of spot some stuff around the party.
[00:16:15] Speaker B: Dirty 20.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: Hey, dirty 20. There is a.
There's a man at one of the bars. He looks a little scruffy and not like this is his normal scene.
Looks very uncomfortable in that very dashing suit. It's very good and it's very tailored for him, but it doesn't look like it's his usual thing.
And you see a couple other people. You see this person with who you have.
You've probably seen them around. You do notice that there's this person there. You can guess by the ashen pallor of their skin that they're a dusk walker, sort of that returned corpse look.
They have this sort of shorter white hair that's pushed back, sort of slicked back, and they're wearing a dashing suit. You've seen Akos before at meetings and has met with your mother and your father before you see them, you see various other important people. You see the headmaster of Ravenswood. You see the even high priest. Looks like he is a high priest of the lamb ladder, sort of shown up tonight. You see Cygnus Strauss.
There's various other people at the party, depending on who you want to mingle with.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: Well, of course, it's the out of place man at the bar. Aubrey, I love people who aren't supposed to be here.
[00:18:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
As you approach, you hear him say, just keep Phil, darling, as he knocks back a glass of brown liquid, some sort of alcohol.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: Laith will sort of lean on the bar next to him and not order anything but ask, is that making the enjoyment any better? Or do you need a few more glasses before that kicks in?
[00:18:44] Speaker A: He smiles and looks at you and just goes, ask me in about five minutes.
[00:18:52] Speaker B: Fair enough.
I don't think I've seen you at one of these get togethers before.
[00:18:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I don't usually. I don't usually make appearances of things like this, but this year, you know, made an exception.
Thought there'd be some interesting stories to collect.
And places like this always have the best secrets.
[00:19:23] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sure that our gracious hosts don't have anything to hide. And look around this room. Who could possibly have secrets? Very clearly, being facetious.
[00:19:36] Speaker A: Sort of turns around, leans his arms on the bar and looks around and goes, relatively sure those two are having an affair.
You know that person is that.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a couple seasons out of date.
Maybe they fell on hard times, but still want to pretend that everything's fine.
I have a knack for reading people.
[00:20:08] Speaker B: I think we can see Laithe sort of mentally making notes of these observations. But she just says, and what should we be reading from you? I mean, it's a very dapper suit, but you don't look terribly comfortable in it.
[00:20:23] Speaker A: Oh, you're definitely not used to wearing something like this. And kind of like, adjusts the tie a little bit.
[00:20:32] Speaker B: Were you hoping for someone to come take pity on you? Or that your out of placeness might grant you some grace from the vultures?
[00:20:42] Speaker A: Oh, no. I am kind of hoping that they notice that I don't look like I belong. Cause that's when I deal with my best deals, you know, everyone wants something, and for a small price, I can swing things.
[00:21:04] Speaker B: I think she sort of rests her chin on her palm levered against the bar and leans in a little bit.
And what is it that you can offer?
[00:21:18] Speaker A: Well, I can if you want something to. You want information, you need something to happen. You need something to turn out in your way. I've been known to help nudge things along.
All it costs is a secret.
[00:21:45] Speaker B: Does whose secret matter much to you?
[00:21:50] Speaker A: No, not particularly.
And the more important and juicy the secret is, the more I can nudge things.
[00:22:05] Speaker B: I think we see her thinking for a minute, sort of evaluating what to say.
But eventually, well, I'm sure I don't have any secrets, just like the rest of this lot. But of course might come upon one or two in the future. Is there some way I could get a hold of you? I didn't get your name. I'm sorry. And she will offer the hand with the signet ring with her house crest.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: On it and say, laithe, I'll shake your hand. It's a nice strong handshake, very calloused hand. This person clearly does a lot of work with their hands and says, call me whiskey or Jack or whiskey, jack, whatever you want.
[00:23:06] Speaker B: Charmed. Is there a place that you usually inhabit, since you're not around these parties very often?
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Oh, I usually usually wander a lot.
I've traveled around. I've seen most of the world over the course of my years.
I've been hanging out here for a bit. The watching wood has been a bit temperamental these last few months. And it's been made it hard to travel through. And boats aren't coming in and out like they used to with your problem.
[00:23:44] Speaker B: And there is a very minute shift where for a second, when he says that he wanders and has been past the woods, traveling sort of the continent. I assume there's a moment of girlish curiosity and joy and wanting to ask about his travels. Not for secret reasons, just for pure curiosity, but it's reined in quickly.
And she just says, well, if I come upon any secrets, I will keep you in mind. I'll keep an eye out, hopefully. Well, I wouldn't hope for you to be stuck, of course, but you seem like a useful person to know.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: It's what all my friends say, he says as he knocks back the next glass of something. Well, if you do just change your mind, decide to make a deal, I'll be around. I'm sure that there are plenty of people that are looking for something tonight.
[00:25:08] Speaker B: They might be more inclined to talk to you in the back gardens than here at the ball, here at the bar.
In houses like this, you can never be sure about who's listening in.
[00:25:21] Speaker A: That's very true. Thank you for your advice.
We'll sort of leave his finished glass on the bar and put down a couple of coins for the bartender before sort of walking away telling you, don't get in too much trouble.
[00:25:43] Speaker B: I never do.
[00:25:48] Speaker A: So you've talked to the stranger.
Do you want to? What else would you like to do?
[00:25:58] Speaker B: God, I really don't want to talk to anyone affiliated with my mother, so I think that maybe she will go not directly talk to, but sort of linger around whatever circle is talking with Cygnus. Um, does he. I mean, as the high priest of the lamplighters, I understand that there's like an. That's an elevated position. But is he in, like, society stuff a lot?
Yeah, he's.
[00:26:34] Speaker A: He's definitely more involved in, like, the society part of everything than Tezrani was his priest before him, the one that tragically got murdered several months ago.
And he's more out there and more of the people, definitely seems like you could talk to him. He's still kind of wearing.
He's wearing a very, very nice suit with sort of a pin of the lamplighters on his lapel and sort of surrounded by people who are listening eagerly too, as he sort of talks about his duties as high priest and sort of the people he's talked to and the stories he has.
It is also very well known that he is single. And there are maybe some noble people that see it would be a really great idea to try and marry him because high priest serves until death.
[00:27:46] Speaker B: Nice. We can just ignore the fact that the last one mysteriously died recently.
[00:27:50] Speaker A: Yeah, mysteriously died recently. That was the vigilantes fault. They're a problem in the city and the guard is cracking down on them.
I'm sure it totally.
[00:28:04] Speaker B: Yeah. I think that laith sort of makes a note of the people who are sort of specifically angling for anything romantic with this man and we'll listen in on one or two stories before wandering over to the Ravenswood headmaster. There is nothing that she finds more boring than magic and less exciting to talk about, but I think that it's sort of a, like if I tell nadia that the headmaster was here and I didn't talk to him, then she'll try and guilt me about it. So.
[00:28:52] Speaker A: It's very true.
And, I mean, it really depends.
I mean, Cygnus is telling stories sort of like about politics and, you know, he had meetings with the leader of the Twilight watch the other day and, oh, that's just such a hard ass kind of thing, you know. But, you know, she's such a good service to the. To the world, you know, protecting us from those monsters. You know, he's doing that kind of routine.
And then eventually you wander around and you see Andreas Ravenswood, the founder and headmaster of Ravenswood Academy. He is sort of having a quiet conversation with a couple other people you guess are teachers or, you know, possibly ex students, you know, kind of catching up.
You know, students that have graduated, not like students that have left, but, you know.
And, you know, as you approach, you've met him before, probably right, and just goes, miss or do you. Which would you use? Miss or.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: Mix? Yeah, Miss or mix are both fine. Or like the Utada Hikaru. Like my s. Miss for mystery.
[00:30:19] Speaker A: Your prefix is a mystery.
Yes. And so goes, uh, Miss Ildra. See, it is, uh.
It's lovely to see you again. Uh, did your sister accompany you to the party?
[00:30:37] Speaker B: Unfortunately, no. She was quite caught up in her reading.
[00:30:44] Speaker A: As you know. I'm sure that, uh, when she comes to school that, uh, it'll be. It will be right at home. There is plenty of reading to be had.
[00:30:57] Speaker B: Of course, she's terribly excited about it.
[00:31:01] Speaker A: We were very excited to have her as well. As you know, we only can let in a couple hundred people per semester.
We only have so much space.
[00:31:14] Speaker B: And clearly your graduates do great things. I mean.
[00:31:18] Speaker A: Yes. I mean, the graduates will gesture over to the twins and say, yeah, they've gone on to become the senators for the district.
I didn't actually teach them. I just run the school, but very proud of what they've been able to do.
And Andreas is an elf who is.
You're not exactly sure how old he is, but his heritage is ancient, so he's very old. And you're not sure if he had blonde hair initially, but it's gone gray, white, and sort of long and sort of kept swept back and wears very, very nice robes.
And.
And, you know, we'll continue talking with you about sort of the school in general, just because you were in the game. Anything about a very specific alchemy professor has been kind of covered up. And as far as anybody knows, for the last five years, Professor Talis has been on sabbatical.
[00:32:35] Speaker B: Long sabbatical. Nothing suspicious there?
[00:32:38] Speaker A: Nothing suspicious.
Well, they're like, his. His health is failing. You know, he will return to the school one day, but once he recovers.
[00:32:49] Speaker B: Of course. Of course.
[00:32:56] Speaker A: So give me a.
What is the role that you usually roll to collect rumors for dandy?
[00:33:10] Speaker B: Let me check.
So, for influencing rumors, it is diplomacy.
It doesn't say specifically anything for collecting rumors, but I would assume either diplomacy or society.
[00:33:42] Speaker A: Let's roll a society.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Those are the two that it boosts. So it makes sense that it would be.
That's a nat 20. So 27.
[00:33:55] Speaker A: Nat 20 for 27.
And that's when you hear it.
There are these two gossiping noblewoman that pass you, and you hear one of them say, can you believe it?
That Idrissi, Idrissi, Idrisi.
Cool. That Idrisi woman is engaged to the scriab in air, and then you hear the other one go, is she going to the magic school? Or just being like, the other one goes? That's what they say. But if this happens, she's gonna probably have to not do that.
There's sort of this rumor of this Scriabin, and Scriabin is a name that you've heard before.
The newest district of the city is called the ash district.
There's this greaben family who bought up a lot of land where the watching wood is, and through some means of magic, have actually been able to cut down some of the trees and sort of built an entire new district.
So it's kind of gotten a little bit.
They've made their. Made a name for themselves through the, you know, helping with the lumberyards and the estates.
And also, this is probably the first time you've heard about it.
[00:35:54] Speaker B: I was about to ask. Yeah. Is this the first time? Okay.
[00:35:57] Speaker A: You know that, like, your mother has been trying to marry off you for a while.
[00:36:03] Speaker B: That's never happening.
[00:36:04] Speaker A: Yeah. But you keep causing too many problems. So it looks to see your mother has moved on.
[00:36:13] Speaker B: Yeah. All the joy of the evening immediately leaves Laith, and I think that she's been sort of keeping a pin in the back of her head of where her mother is, or where it seems like her mother is previously to avoid her now to go and pull her off into some corner and ask about this.
[00:36:36] Speaker A: Yeah, you see that she is in the middle of a conversation with somebody. I don't know if you care about that too much, but you could pull her off into the library somewhere. Maybe people won't hear you yell.
You could pull her out into the gardens.
[00:36:56] Speaker B: Is the whiskey Jack still at the bar or did he take my suggestion?
[00:37:02] Speaker A: He took your suggestion and is probably wandering the gardens.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: All right, I am going to. I mean, not with any sort of urgency. There's no need for whoever it is that mother's talking to to think there's anything wrong. But when there's a break in the conversation, I will cut in and pull her away to the library.
[00:37:24] Speaker A: Yeah, you do. Kind of the normal, just like haha, I need to talk to my mother about something and grab her by the arm and before you know it, the library isn't far off the like the main floor, it's just down the hallway and it is an area that is very quiet. There's really no one in here because there's no really need. And it's kind of like, yeah, you don't need to go in the library for this. There are other more important, more fun rooms to go to.
And your mother looks at you and sort of straightens her dress and says, now what is this all about?
[00:38:02] Speaker B: Is there a reason, mother, that you werent forcing Nadia to come to this party.
[00:38:10] Speaker A: In the end? Its just I knew that she wouldnt have a good time about it, and I didnt want to have to drag her out of the library at the end of the night when she would not socialize with anyone.
[00:38:26] Speaker B: Of course. And it has nothing to do with the socializing that you've arranged outside of either of our knowledge.
[00:38:36] Speaker A: Look, I am just doing what is best for this family.
[00:38:44] Speaker B: You're doing. It's true then? You've engaged her?
Does she even know?
[00:38:50] Speaker A: She will tomorrow.
[00:38:59] Speaker B: It was one thing when it was me.
[00:39:05] Speaker A: Well, yes, then you went and caused all of those problems, kept getting yourself in trouble, and now no one wants to marry you.
[00:39:18] Speaker B: You know that. She'll do it.
She'll go through with this for you. It's not for her or for our family. It is purely for you. Is it? This heir, are they part of your little circle? And I think she looks pointedly towards whatever unbroken jewelry.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: Yes.
Sebastian is just like his parents.
[00:39:53] Speaker B: Then why do you need a marriage if theyre already a part of the fold?
[00:39:58] Speaker A: To consolidate our power.
Your sister is a very gifted wizard and something like that is looked upon very fondly.
[00:40:20] Speaker B: Shell be even more gifted after shes allowed to attend the academy.
Mother.
[00:40:34] Speaker A: In the end, she will do what she is told.
[00:40:43] Speaker B: Which is why you mustnt tell her to do this. Shes your child. Shes your youngest child.
How could you ask this of her? Not even tell her. Not let them meet.
[00:40:57] Speaker A: Well, they can meet tomorrow and well set it all up.
It is how it is done. That is how I met your father. And that is how all of this is done. It is not for love.
It is for power.
[00:41:18] Speaker B: Clearly not very effectively if youre continuing to have to marry us off of her power. Your own entanglements didnt work out so well, did they? Or are you simply that incompetent with our familys legacy?
[00:41:37] Speaker A: Well, maybe I wouldnt be so incompetent if you hadnt fucked it up so many times.
[00:41:46] Speaker B: I think we see that Laiths hands are clenched and she is sort of very angrily spinning the ring on her thumb, which was a gift from Nadia.
I won't let you do this.
[00:42:07] Speaker A: It's.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: I care. She's my sister. I'm not going to let you ruin her life.
[00:42:17] Speaker A: You can't stop me.
[00:42:23] Speaker B: And those are the fighting words that Laithe hears in her nightmares.
And I think that her hair is down. There are sort of a set of golden pins, one of which she is going to pull out and attempt to stab through her mother's neck.
[00:43:03] Speaker A: Yeah, give me a. Give me an attack roll.
She is off guard.
The last thing she expected.
[00:43:14] Speaker B: I was going to ask if I could faint or something beforehand, but if.
[00:43:19] Speaker A: She'S already off guard, she's not expecting murder.
[00:43:23] Speaker B: Yeah, that's fair. Do we get hero points?
[00:43:26] Speaker A: Yes, you do.
[00:43:27] Speaker B: Okay, cool. I'm rerolling that.
Oh, nice. Okay.
These dice are extremely hard to read.
28.
[00:43:40] Speaker A: To hit 28. That is a critical hell yeah. And you get your precision dice, too.
[00:43:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I assume this is basically just a dagger, so it's not going to be big dammies, but.
Okay, so that is. Does the precision also double or is it just the main dice?
[00:44:09] Speaker A: I believe it also doubles.
[00:44:11] Speaker B: Okay, so that is 18.
[00:44:15] Speaker A: Yeah. No, your mother counts as a negative one creature.
That is enough to kill her.
As you stab the knife through the neck, what does it. What is going through laiths head at this moment?
[00:44:37] Speaker B: I think its just pure protective rage because Laithe has fucked up her own life and her reputation and maybe a bit of the familys reputation, but the one thing that she thinks she hasn't fucked up is caring for and helping raise Nadia. And she's not going to let her mother finally step up as a parent for this one thing to sell her off. And so, almost without thinking, I think that the pins, the hairpins were a gift and more of a novelty than something she ever thought that she would have to use.
But, yeah, it's just instinctive rage as she thinks that her mother has these connections and these machinations already in tow or already in place, and this is the only way that she can think to stop her.
[00:45:58] Speaker A: Yeah, and there's the gurgling sound as you just shove that thing through the neck, and because you've done it right through the neck scream.
And it's fast and messy. And then there's a body on the floor.
[00:46:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I think we see Laithe, just covered in blood, hand shaking a little bit where she holds the pin, which, I dont know, she quickly sticks in her pocket. She wipes off on her vest and tries to sort of put it back in her hair, which is probably also bloodstained from the arterial spray.
Maybe no one will notice it this way. And I think that, okay, she considers running out to the garden, but there, you know, weird stuff is a part of this city, but I just met this whiskey Jack character, and I don't think that I can quite trust them for something this immediate and this big.
And so instead she opens a window and then goes back to her mother and screams.
The play here is, I didn't do this. I am a bystander.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: Okay, so you do that, you scream and people come running and.
[00:48:46] Speaker B: Yeah, oh, they will find her, like, on her knees by her mother's body, sort of hand over her neck, trying to also explain away the blood all over her by, like, I was trying to stop the spray, trying to stop what happened.
[00:49:08] Speaker A: All right, give me a deception check.
[00:49:17] Speaker B: Dirty 20.
[00:49:18] Speaker A: Dirty 20.
So I'm going to ask you a question.
What is the flaw in her plan?
[00:49:41] Speaker B: I mean, she was hoping that with all of the blood and the chaos, and who would think that she would actually kill her own mother here at this harvest festival, that no one would even look at her hair or think about her hair. But it is very clear, just, I mean, red blood on white hair where she pulled the pin and where she refastened it. And there are clear marks on her vest. Which is red, but still from where she attempted to wipe it off.
[00:50:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
And that is, of course, will be your downfall in the end.
Theres at least enough chaos at first that ill say before they realize you can do one thing, you can put one thing into motion.
[00:51:02] Speaker B: She gets Nadia out of town.
[00:51:06] Speaker A: Yes, youre able to, through money bribes or something, before they come to arrest you.
You've put her on a hesterhunder with this person you've paid to get her away, and she's gone.
And it is time for you to face your fate.
And the next time we see you, you will be in that quickly filling up jail cell with all of these other, I'm sure, upstanding citizens.
[00:51:51] Speaker B: I mean, I've already ruined this family. What's a matricide on top of that?
[00:51:57] Speaker A: Yep.

And I look forward to seeing what this last character does to end up in this situation. But if you enjoy what we do, please check us out everywhere on the Internet at goblets and gays other than twitch and G streams, because Twitch won't let us have gay in the name.
And other than that, check back. The actual campaign will be starting soon.
I hope you've been enjoying the prologues. They've been certainly a fun way to introduce these characters. And we'll see you all next time.
